QUEEN-ÁLBUM DEBUT Y REVELACIÓN.
Grabado entre 1971 y 1972 en diferentes estudios de Londres(Como De-Lane Lea o Trident y algunas sesiones de la BBC perdidas),este álbum vio la luz el 13 de julio de 1973 con 10 tracks que lo componían.Se abre con el corte publicado en single 7 días antes del lanzamiento del álbum,escrito por Brian May,su nombre es KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE(Mantente vivo).Su composición de cortes data de el tiempo en que la banda Pre-QUEEN,SMILE estaba formada,hablo del corte DOIN ALL RIGHT escrito por Brian May y Tim Staffell,aunque en los créditos del álbum,no figura el nombre de Staffell.El álbum es un viaje entre distintos estilos de música,desde el Heavy Metal de principios de los años 70´procediente de la costa inglesa(GREAT KING RAT) hasta el folclóre(MY FAIRY KING y JESUS).
El álbum empezó a gestarse cuando todavía estaban con el segundo bajista de QUEEN.Un amigo de Roger Taylor llamado Roger Crossley situó a Barry Mitchell en el grupo como segundo bajista. Barry se quedó con la banda hasta enero de 1971, cuando él también se fue, citando la falta de éxito como la razón principal. Después de un bajista más, Doug Bogie, iban y venían sin hacer un gran impacto en los miembros fundadores, John Deacon se introdujo a través de un amigo común, y, después de un poco de halagos y la persuasión, John hizo una prueba de audición para el grupo y fue el cuarto y último de QUEEN en febrero de 1971.Sus conciertos contenían canciones de SMILE y de este primer álbum.
Se sabe que hay cortes no incluidos en el álbum por razones desconocidas como fue el caso de MAD THE SWINE.
El productor de este álbum fue Roy Thomas Baker(También arreglador de un puñado de cortes como KEEP YOUR ELF ALIVE) y el ingeniero de sonido fue Mike Stone.
Según Brian May en una entrevista dada a mediado de los 70' sobre el álbum,sus palabras fueron las siguientes:''Cuando editamos el álbum en Reino Unido,al día siguiente nos dirigimos hacia una tienda de discos muy famosa en Londres por aquella época.Al entrar pensamos,¡Dios mío estamos en una tienda de discos por fin!,cuando fuimos a hablar con el dependiente de la tienda,nuestra pregunta inminente fue:¿Tienen el nuevo disco de QUEEN?,a lo que les respondieron,¿QUEEN?,¿Qué es eso?.Fue una decepción bastante grande''.
El álbum se compone de 10 temas que están compuestos por tres miembros de la banda,Freddie Mercury compuso 5 cortes,Brian May compuso tres completamente compuestos por él y uno co-escrito por Brian y Tim Staffell(DOIN ALL RIGHT) y uno por Roger,en la que lleva la voz principal.
HISTORIA DE LOS CORTES:
KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE:Comienza con guitarras pesadas y un gran número de coros.Fue escrito por Brian May antes de la llegada de John Deacon al grupo en febrero de 1971,pero se cree que Freddie Mercury metió un poco de de su creatividad.Es el único single del álbum editado en todo el mundo.Tiene un duración de aproximadamente 3 minutos y 47 segundos(Dependiendo de su formato).Fue estrella en vivo desde 1971 hasta el THE WORKS TOUR entre los años 1984 y 1985.Actualmente es un corte que los fans le tienen mucho cariño,ya que,oficialmente es el primer corte de la banda en toda su carrera.Fue incluida como cara B del single THE SHOW MUST GO ON de 1991(Creando asía como el primer single y el último con Freddie Mercury vivo).Triunfó especialmente en Japón.
DOING ALL RIGHT:Original de el grupo SMILE e interpretado en vivo por dicho grupo en sus pocos conciertos por Inglaterra.Esta escrita por Brian May y Tim Staffell.Por primera vez en la larga historia de QUEEN,Freddie Mercury muestra sus habilidades como pianista.La canción en sí es un viaje entre distintos pasajes musicales,ya que,su principio comienza con una lenta melodía al piano con eco,acto seguido empieza la voz de Freddie Mercury y a los diez segundos,los coros de la banda y la batería suena más fuerte mientras la Red Special hace un una mezcla de melodías hasta que cambia a una acústica como con una especie de cajón tocado de fondo,hasta que la guitarra se hace más pesada y vuelve practicamente al inicio.Su duración aproximada es de 4 minutos y 09 segundos.Se extinguió en vivo tras el JAZZ tour de 1978 y 1979.
GREAT KING RAT:Corte escrito por Freddie Mercury en la base del Heavy Metal de los 70' e inspirandose en un lugar ficticio creado por Freddie Mercury llamado Rhye,¿Os suena?,si la respuesta es no,es normal por solo un ligero puñado de fans lo saben y si vuestra respuesta es sí,seguro que lo saben por la canción SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE,primer éxito de QUEEN.Contiene guitarras muy pesadas durante todo el corte,cuya duración es de 5 minutos y 43 segundos,la que la hacen la segunda canción con mayor duración del álbum.
MY FAIRY KING:A este corte los fans le tienen mucho cariño porque es de el que se sirvió Freddie Mercury para cambiarse el nombre en el verso ''Mother Mercury,look what to me'',Madre Mercurio mira lo que me han hecho.Se inspira en el Rhye y se cree que podría haber sido una de las canciones precursoras a BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY.Rara vez se representó en vivo.Su demo de las sesiones en la BBC muestra como comienza con un sonido continuo de platillos.Su duración es de 4 minutos y 13 segundos.
LIAR:Con una duración de 6 minutos y 25 segundos,esta canción es la más larga de el álbum y una de las más largas de QUEEN.Compuesta por Freddie Mercury,este corte se editó como single únicamente en Japón junto con DOING ALL RIGHT a la cara B.Sobresalen los coros,los riffs de guitarra y la batería.Su video muestra a la banda interpretando el tema entre luces moradas y oscuridad.
THE NIGHT COMES DOWN:Brian May compone esta joya que por razones desconocidas iba a ser en un principio excluida del álbum,lo cual iba a ser un gran error,es un gran tema,un poco dado de lado en el repertorio de QUEEN y con una duración de 4 minutos y 23 segundos.
MODERN TIMES ROCK AND ROLL.Tema compuesto y y cantado totalmente por Roger Taylor,muy,muy rara vez se interpretó en vivo,consta de la Red Special haciendo riffs rockeros y continuos y a Freddie Mercury en los coros.Su duración es muy corta,1 minuto y 43 segundos.
SON AND DAUGHTER:Brain May compone este corte que se aleja un poco de la realidad de QUEEN y con gran cantidad de coros.Combina Rock y Heavy Metal de los 70'.La voz de Freddie Mercury suena distorsionada y un poco forzada.Es la cara B del single KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE.Su duración es de 3 minutos y 23 segundos.Existe un demo de las sesiones de la BBC que fue publicado en los álbumes QUEEN AT THE BEEB(1989) y QUEEN AT THE BBC(1995) y su duración es de 7 minutos y 8 segundos.
JESUS:Corte escrito por Freddie Mercury y probablemente muy poca parte por Brian May.Esta canción se inspiró en la salida de una Iglesia católica.La Red Special suena muy natural y es una canción muy folclórica.Como curiosidad,Freddie Mercury no era seguidor de la religión Zoroastra y menos del cristianismo y Brian May no se considera creyente.
SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE:Con la llegada de QUEEN II al mercado y su corte estrella,SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE,a la versiónde este álbum se la ha rebautizado como SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE(Instrumental) o SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE(QUEEN álbum version) y eso se debe a que es un corte instrumental y de menor duración que la del segundo álbum.Fue compuesta por Freddie Mercury a partir de el riff de piano que da comienzo a el corte .

CURIOSIDADES SOBRE EL ÁLBUM:
-La portada se obtuvo de una instantanea durante un concierto de QUEEN en 1972.
-El álbum se grababa de noche normalmente y en el descanso de otros grupos como GENESIS.
-Existen ejemplares muy primerizos que contienen música rock por una cara y clásica por la otra.Son vinilos de colección.

QUEEN SOBRE EL ÁLBUM:
"Nos gusta un poco de la materia sobre ello, pero a veces nos caímos en la trampa de sobre arreglo. Ya sabes, las canciones cambian a lo largo de los años y algunos de ellos probablemente evolucionan demasiado. Puedes poner algo y después se olvida como era la canción originalmente. A nivel personal, es frustrante para mí tomar tanto tiempo para llegar a este punto. Yo quería grabar, por ejemplo, graves ecos y múltiples guitarras hace cinco años. Ahora por fin lo he hecho, pero mientras tanto también lo han hecho otras personas! ¿Qué es un poco decepcionante?. Pero hay que alejarse de la idea de que la reproducción de música es una competencia. Usted sólo debe seguir haciendo lo que usted cree que es una cosa interesante que hay que hacer. "Hay un montón de cosas en el primer disco que no me gusta, por ejemplo, el sonido de batería. CRÍTICAS SOBRE EL ÁLBUM.
Queen es el último candidato en Inglaterra para el super estrellato, y no se sorprenda que estos tipos lo hacen de una manera grande. Claro, el material es tan diverso (escuchar el guitarristaBrian May, los riff de Jimmy Page, Black Sabbath's, Tony lomi, Jimi Hendrix y Mick Box y verás a qué me refiero), pero el grupo logra inyectar un toque tan fresco, enérgico que a la mayoría le importa poco. Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll es una canción parecida a las deLed Zeppelin, hasta el vocalista Freddie Mercury tiene la capacidad de Robert Plant. Con su primer disco, Queen se ha producido una conducción, de alta energía en el tiempo establecido que puede ser visto con la misma reverencia Led Zepellin.Winnipeg Free Press,año 1974.
INFORMACIÓN.
Durante las sesiones, John Antonhi, que trabajó con Smile cuando aún estaba formada, visitó a Queen para ponerse al día con Brian y Roger, y quedaron tan impresionados con el grupo que él sugirió a los directores de los Trident Studios, Barry(Había trabajado con QUEEN en 1972 para hacer el single I CAN HEAR MUSIC de Larry Lurex) y Norman Sheffield. A pesar de que había estado hablando con sellos discográficos como Chrysalis y Charisma, la banda esperaba y no fue hasta que Barry se contacto con ellos y había organizado un espectáculo especial para que pudiera verlos en acción en vivo, y firmó con el equipo de gestión de los Trident.
La banda se inició en los Trident Studios en Londres para grabar su álbum debut, mientras queSheffields registro el nombre de Queen antes que otras compañías disqueras. A pesar de que se grabó en pedazos y partes, los períodos de sesiones para el álbum debut de Queen se extendía por más de un año, durante el tiempo de estudio, en otras palabras, cuandro otros artitas más famosos dejaban de usar los estudios - como David Bowie o Paul McCartney (que fue célebre por reservar el estudio y luego no aparecer) - Queen tendrá la oportunidad de grabar su propia música. Aunque la tradición de un álbum debut es simplemente la banda en su etapa con material de poca atención con doblajes, Queen insiste en que sus canciones se registrarán hasta que fueran absolutamente perfectas.
